NORTHWEST CLASSEN ACADEMY OF HEALTH SCIENCES
Northwest Classen has an Academy of Health Sciences. The Academy is part of the National Academy Foundation’s network of specialized programs that provide students with a work-based, hands-on learning experience. The job training curriculum is specifically designed to prepare students for college and their future as they choose from more than 80 careers in health sciences – including prosthetists, physical therapists, and speech pathologists.
In their freshman and sophomore years, students explore health sciences careers and take anatomy classes. As juniors, they prepare for their 120 hour paid internships by writing their resumes and conducting mock interviews. Students may also have an opportunity to become CPR certified. In their final year as seniors, they study biotechnology.
Internships are provided by local business partners that find it valuable to develop their pipeline of future leaders. Students work with professionals that can help guide them toward their future health science careers. Our valued partners also participate in an annual Career Day so students can network and learn more about careers in which they’re interested.
